Small Groups / Journey Teams"Groups of 5-15 people, effectively networked together, are fundamental to virtually every healthy church around the world" Carl George, Nine Keys to Effective Small Group Leadership The heart and hub of Crossroads Church is our small group Journey Team ministry. We have a variety of small group types to meet the various needs of our attendees. What is a Journey Team Small Group? A Journey Team is a small group gathering of eight to fourteen individuals meeting weekly to develop meaningful relationships with each other for the purpose of growing in Christ likeness, loving one another, and contributing to the work of our church, in order to glorify God by making disciples. Journey Teams Exist for Four Primary Purposes: Sharing: Each week we take time to share what is happening in our lives. Sharing may be spurred on by the use of "icebreaker" questions, but as we get to know one another we will feel more comfortable sharing the events of our week. Study: During every Journey Team meeting we join in a time of discussion about the topic from the current Bible Study. We'll have the opportunity to ask questions and to share our thoughts and ideas about how the topic impacts us. Our goal is to learn the Scriptures and how to live out our faith in everyday life. Support: As we get to know each other, we learn how to take care of one another as Christ commanded. This care can take many forms, such as prayer, encouragement, listening, challenging one another, and meeting real needs. Socials: Every week, there is a time of fun and fellowship, with opportunities to laugh, chat, share dessert and get to know one another better. Periodically, each Home Team will also plan events outside of the regular weekly meetings to fellowship with another small group or to serve together in one of the many ministry areas at Crossroads. Most Commonly Asked Questions About Small Groups What kind of Small Groups exist? There are currently a variety of Crossroads Journey Teams. Each one is unique. There are Journey Teams meeting most every day of the week in areas all over La Habra and the surrounding communities. Some meet in the morning, some in the afternoon, and some in the evenings. Some meet in homes, some on the church campus. We currently have Journey Teams for Men, Women, Married Couples, and Senior Adults. There are also a large number of General Interest Journey Teams, open to anyone who wants to attend. No matter who you are, there is a Journey Team for you. If one doesn't exist, we'll work to create one for you and other people who share the same interests and experience that you do. See Join a Small Group to find a Journey Team that is just right for you. How long do Small Groups last? At Crossroads most of our Journey Teams meet for approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours weekly. Although the members of a Journey Team will enjoy each other's company and naturally want to stay together longer, we work hard to provide an opportunity for those with extremely busy schedules to participate as well. Most of our Journey Teams also meet in approximately twelve-week cycles. Although you are welcome to join a Journey Team at any time, we encourage you to find a Journey Team that you enjoy and make a commitment to attend for the full cycle. This will allow you to begin to build friendships and to feel a sense of community with other people who share many of your life experiences.
